Every site needs the obligatory 'about me' page, right? So I suppose I should as well.
I think entrepreneurship has always been in my blood. When I was a kid,
I organized a group of friends to create and sell a newspaper. We
pulled out some plain paper, and each of us wrote one part - a sports
page, a comic page, a food and recipe page (mine), and an 'about the
town' page. Then we zipped around town on our bikes, peddling the paper to our
neighbors for ten cents a copy. It was a huge hit with the dozen or so
neighbors around us, and we sold weekly papers for almost an entire
summer.
So when our daughter was born, and we learned she had down syndrome, epilepsy and a heart defect (don't say 'Oh poor thing' - she's doing absolutely fine and is the best kid ever) and would need a lot of therapy work, I jumped at the chance to stay home and start my own business. I was programming already in VB Script and had taken several programming classes after graduating college, so I already had a base core. I just had to take it to the web.
So I worked my bootie off to create scripts that did what others wanted. People kept asking if my catalog could do certain things, and I kept playing with it to make it do those things. While I was coding, my wonderful clients told their friends about me. It took some time, but it developed into its own little entity, and in 2006, my hubby quit his job to come help me with the accounts and paperwork. It's a great career, and I absolutely love every minute of it. I'm very lucky and not for one minute do I ever take for granted anyone who has hired me to help them with scripts or worked with me on projects.
On the personal front, I'm not much of a techie geek, but more of a gadget gal. I love toys too, and have a Littlest Pet Shop and Mr. Potato Head collection that would blow your socks off. (Okay, they're my daughter's. But I play so much with her that it may as well be mine.) There's nothing more satisfying to me than a pillow fight with my hubby and daughter, followed by some goofy dancing to Kids Bop (not my hubby though - he's waaaaay too cool to dance) - and when we're good and exhausted, we'll fall into a heap on the couch and read some books together while drinking hot cocoa made with Hershey Kisses.
I also like almost everyone, and it takes a lot to make me not like someone (and if they're nice I will probably never not like them). So if you're here reading about me, and want to chat about business or programming - or even Mr. Potato Head! - pop on my Twitter page and let's chat.
